The Bernstein Torah Reading Academy is known as one of the jewels in the crown of Congregation Adath Jeshurun.  Shortly after Hazzan Charles Davidson arrived on the AJ scene in 1966, he and Rabbi Ya'akov (Yak) G. Rosenberg z"l developed the structure for a Torah Reading learning program that succeeded in not only teaching scores of children to read, but also filled nearly all of the synagogue's weekday and Shabbat mincha reading slots.

For many years the program ran under the direction of a principal. Principals over the years included Izzy Resnick, Elsie Duman z"l and Marci Webber.  The program continues today under the supervision of Hazzan Glantz and Marci Webber remains active as a special advisor to the program.

In the Fall of 2015, the Religious School programs of AJ, BSC and KI combined under the umbrella educational program - JQuest.  The Bernstein Torah Reading academy continues to prepare students to read from the Torah with classes meeting within the JQuest curriculum - taught by Hazzan Howard Glantz.
